Success

This week I attacked the first of the big jobs. It all began with a phone call telling me that the chickens I had ordered from a farmer were ready for pick up. I needed to find space for four large, frozen, chickens.

My freezer was appalling. The ice was four inches thick in some places - really a disaster. There was no place to put these birds because of all the ice.

In my defence, I had not wanted to shut it down until after eating some of the beef that had found its home there. I purchase as much meat as I can from local farmers. It helps the local economy, I know the source and it's a bit of a help to my pocketbook too. Our previous purchase of meat was 1/4 of a cattlebeast, which amounts to nearly 200 lbs of meat. That's a lot to move and try to store while cleaning out a freezer! The solution was to put them in insulated coolers, and that worked well.

After clearing everything out and unplugging the freezer, I started. Three hours later, the freezer was plugged back in, the beef was in place, and there was lots of room for the chickens.

A small thing? Maybe, but one of those "weights" that had been on my shoulders for a long time. Next time, I will defrost it before it gets that bad.

"One small step for Lois..."

Maybe I'll tackle the linen cupboard today.

I'm still fat, though.

  1. I totally hear you on getting rid of the ambient "fat" or the load that's on our minds! In the last four (very difficult) years at the office, I became too tired to do routine maintenance at home, including sorting through things and putting them away or getting rid of them. After being "early retired" (my position was eliminated)one of the things I immediately desired was get rid of some of the fat in the house as well as in my own body. In fact, I almost immediately bought three books on various aspects of getting those two things under control. If I find myself buying books on a subject it's always a sure sign that something is trying to get my attention. Several months later, I have managed to get rid of some of the house fat and none of the body fat (holding the line though). However, I have spent a lot of the intervening time getting the professional and financial house in order as well as resting up and shedding the discouragement and psychic load from the last four years of work and the dubious honour of being declared one of the two Least Valuable Players. So it's ongoing, and I keep telling myself (as you should) that it's OK, because the problem didn't happen overnight, nor will it go away overnight. Every step is a step closer to the goal. Be of good courage!
